Jackson, located in the extreme northwest corner of Wyoming, is noted throughout the world as the gateway to Wyoming skiing and the wonders of Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks. West Jackson, set against the pristine Gros Ventre Wilderness Area, offers large, multi-acre lots with plenty of space to enjoy the plentiful wildlife which call the area home. Though slightly more remote than other sections of Jackson, this area is still within a short drive of shopping and dining in the heart of the city.

Shopping and Dining

West Jackson, Wyoming real estate owners will find plenty of places to shop and dine. The emphasis here is on locally-owned, independent eateries and retailers. You'll find very few chain restaurants and big box stores in Jackson. Most of Jackson's shopping is centered around Town Square in the heart of downtown. This Western-themed plaza sports arches made from antlers at its entrances and features dozens of art galleries, sporting good stores and gift shops. Additional shopping can be found in the resort area of Teton Village.

Jackson is known for its diverse collection of restaurants. In West Jackson, you'll find Rendezvous, a nationally-recognized eatery, specializing in authentic French bistro cuisine. Local favorites elsewhere in Jackson include the Snake River Restaurant and Brewery for casual – and tasty – American food and beer; the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar on Town Square (the scene of more than one Hollywood film); and the Cadillac Grille for elegant, fine dining.

Parks and Recreation

One of the best things about West Jackson, Wyoming real estate is the abundance of terrific outdoor recreation very close to town. The Jackson Hole Valley is known worldwide for its four seasons of outdoor activities. In fact, some of the best skiing and fly fishing in the United States is located right in Teton County.

The huge Gros Ventre Wilderness Area abuts West Jackson on the eastern side. In addition, the 310,000-acre Grand Teton National Park is located just north of Jackson, and offers a full array of fishing spots, hiking and biking trails, cross-country ski trails and rock-climbing opportunities. Yellowstone National Park is just an hour's drive away.

The Snake River, which winds its way through West Jackson, offers excellent fly fishing, as do many of the streams and creeks which run through many West Jackson properties. For additional wildlife viewing, the National Elk Refuge is located nearby in northwest Jackson.

Living

West Jackson, Wyoming real estate is noted for its large, multi-acre lots. The area is also home to plenty of wildlife since it's right next to the Gros Ventre Wilderness area, and it's not unusual to see deer or other game animals grazing. The homes in this section of Jackson tend to have ample acreage, and single family homes dominate the market in this area. West Jackson, Wyoming real estate also offers a good number of properties that are well-suited for keeping horses and other animals. Many have barns and stables in addition to the main house.

Schools, Health, Transportation

Children of West Jackson attend the schools of the Teton County School District, a large area that also includes nearby Wilson, West Wilson and Teton Village. The district has nine schools, including six elementary schools, one middle schools and two high schools. The private Jackson Hole Community School, located in Jackson, offers an alternative to the public schools. For post-secondary education, the University of Wyoming has a branch in Jackson.

For acute medical needs, St. John's Medical Center in Northeast Jackson, offers an array of health care services. The 108-bed hospital offers extensive inpatient and outpatient care and operates six satellite clinics in and around Jackson.

You're never far away in Jackson, and getting from one point to another is easy. Three state routes (89, 191 and 26) criss-cross the city. In addition, Jackson's bus service, Southern Teton Area Rapid Transit (START), offers bus service to downtown from West Jackson as well as to the outlying communities of Teton Village and Teton Valley. For trips further afield, Jackson Hole Airport connects the region via non-stop flights to other U.S. cities, including Dallas, Houston, Chicago and Atlanta.
